Professional golfer, Rebecca Artis has topped off another successful year in the sport by winning the Jack Newton Celebrity Classic at the Hunter Valley Golf Club on Wednesday, 16 December.
After touching down in Australia from Dubai only two days earlier, Rebecca went on to take out the charity competition with a four under par - 71,67.
It was Rebecca’s first time playing as a professional golfer in the tournament, teeing-up alongside former Australian Prime Minister, Bob Hawke.
The win marks the end of stellar year for Rebecca and her husband and caddy, Geoff, who have spent the majority of 2015 on the Ladies European Tour.
“At the start of the year, Geoff and I sat down and set out a number of goals for the year - the biggest three were to win again on the Ladies European Tour, finish within the top 10 on the money list and get inside the top 100 on the world rankings,” Rebecca said.
“It was nice to be able to achieve all those goals and we will be hoping for similar results next year.
“Adding to that, I was lucky enough to be able to share my win in the Ladies Scottish Open with my coaches, Gary and Luke Edwin, who happened to be over there at the time.
“Geoff’s uncle was also there and then mum and dad arrived just after.
“Having that support network definitely helped with the win.”
Although Rebecca has been competing in Europe for the past six years, the conditions in Scotland at the end of July were some of the worst she has golfed in.
“It was a very tough, Scottish links course anyway, and then the conditions were windy, cold and sleeting rain all day in the final,” she said.
“You can’t prepare for that type of weather in Australia, but I am getting used to it.”
Playing some of the most consistent golf of her career, Rebecca said she was proud of her efforts during the first seven months of the year.
“I had a lot of top 10 finishes and was in contention quite a lot.
“I would have been disappointed if I had finished this year without a win, because I felt like I put myself out there week- in week-out.
“I haven’t played that well since my win in Scotland, but it’s like anything - up and down.”
Currently visiting family and friends in Coonabarabran, Rebecca is enjoying some down time until the golfing season re-commences in February.
Rebecca said she was also looking forward to a short holiday to the Sunshine Coast in the coming weeks...and leaving the golf clubs at home.
