Dr Richard Choi officially took over the helm at Coonabarabran Smiles Dental Service on Tuesday, 6 October, following the departure of Dr Jo Ann Phang.
Originally from Auckland, Dr Choi completed his dentistry training at James Cook University in Cairns, where he developed an interest and passion for working in rural areas.
Having worked in regional Queensland, as well as Sydney, Dr Choi said he preferred a quieter lifestyle where you could become a part of the community.
This is why he jumped at the opportunity to run his own surgery in Coonabarabran. “Coona Smiles is part of a greater network of surgeries, which is good because you get a lot of support - not just with patients, but as a dentist,” Dr Choi said.
“Everyone has been very welcoming and I’m really excited for this new chapter.
“I’ve already been introduced to a number of sports groups - unlike the big cities where you have to compete just to be involved.
“I’m looking forward to meeting more people, both professionally and socially.”
